About me

Dr. Kate MacDonald, PhD

Kate MacDonald is a scientist and writer currently working as a research fellow at Stanford University’s School of Medicine, where she studies the cell biology of cancer. She holds a PhD in Medical Biophysics from the University of Toronto and has published her research in top scientific journals, including Nature Communications and Molecular Cell.

She is the author of books for curious kids, including the non-fiction middle grade title WHY TRUST A SCIENTIST? (Orca Book Publishers, 2026) and the IZZY STEAM series, a middle-grade fiction story about a boarding school for kid scientists (Bookpress, 2026).

Kate is also an active science communicator with nearly a decade of experience writing educational articles for Let’s Talk Science magazine and delivering science talks for the general public. She is the founder of Zoom a Grad Studenta virtual outreach program that connects high schoolers with life science graduate students to learn about science careers and how to navigate life as a young adult.
